In Luke 12, we read about a rich man whose land was very productive. When he had no place to store his crops, he decided to tear down his barns and build bigger ones. Feeling confident and comfortable he would say, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat drink and be merry.”
But God said, “You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared? So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Jesus went on to say, “For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.”
What’s the lesson for you and me? Simply put, life is not about stuff. Life is not about our houses or land, our bank accounts, stock, or bonds.
Life is about having a right relationship with God. It’s about tending to the spiritual matters of life. It’s about setting our affection on things above, not on the things of the earth.
Never let it be said that you are a fool.
