Are You Ready to Go?

While working at a funeral home, I met numerous families who came in to prearrange their funeral. They would typically discuss what type of funeral they wanted and then make the necessary payment. Afterward, they had some sense of peace of mind. They had the planning done and things would be easier for their family at the time of their passing. It was common to hear them say, “Now that I have that taken care of, I’m ready to go.”

I often thought, “are you really ready to go?” When you prearrange your funeral, you make plans as to what will happen to your physical body. But have you made plans as to what will happen to you? I’m talking about the real you, not that temporary tent you live in for a short while. Have you made plans as to what will happen to your soul?

Solomon wrote that our physical bodies die, but our spirit lives on. Ecclesiastes 12:7. Paul wrote that we will all one day appear before the judgment seat of Christ. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” II Corinthians 5:10. We will be judged according to what we have done, how we have lived. We will find out where we will spend eternity.
