When Moses was on Mt. Sinai receiving the law from God, the people became impatient. They told Aaron they did not know what had become of Moses an asked Aaron to build them gods to worship. Aaron collected gold from the people and used it to build a golden calf.
When Moses came down from the mountain and saw what had taken place he confronted Aaron.
Aaron’s response would be humorous if it were not so sad. “You know the people, that they are set on evil. For they said to me, ‘Make us gods who shall go before us.” Exodus 32:32-33.
Aaron’s response is no different than many today. Rather than own up to their mistakes, it’s always easier to blame someone else. I know I blew it, but it’s my parents fault – it’s the way I was raised. It’s my friend’s fault or it’s society’s fault. Some would even say it’s the preacher’s fault things are the way they are. My sin, just like yours, will never be taken care of until I own up to it, take responsibility for my actions and seek God’s forgiveness.
