What do you think of when you hear the words “church of Christ?” The words “church of Christ” are not a title for the Lord’s church as much as they are a description of the church. The word “Christ” in Romans 16:16 is translated from the Greek word “cristou” and is in the genitive case. This denotes ownership.
The words “church of Christ” do not refer to any denomination. They simply refer to the church that belongs to Christ. Christ said He would build His church. Matthew 16:18. It’s HIS church. It belongs to HIM. Christ purchased the church with His blood. Acts 20:28. Obviously, if you purchase something it belongs to you.
Christ is the head of His church. Colossians 1:18. Christ is the Savior of His church. Ephesians 5:23.
“The churches of Christ salute you.” Romans 16:16.
