Strength to Endure

Shortly before His death on the cross, Jesus went to His Father in prayer. “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39.

Jesus’ prayer did not spare him from death, for without Christ shedding his blood there was no way for man to be saved from his sin. Yet note the following from Luke 22:42, ” And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.”

God did not remove Jesus’ suffering in the garden nor his agony on the cross.  But he did send the angel to strengthen him.  God enabled Jesus to endure his struggle.

Is that not much like what happens with us today?  God, for reasons unknown to us, may not remove the struggles from our lives, but he will give us the strength to endure them.
