The word “Lord” is often used in the New Testament to denote one who has power or authority. It may also be used as a title in regard to one who is deserving of reverence and awe. In Ephesians 4:5 Paul wrote there is one Lord, a clear reference to Jesus Christ.
Jesus is Lord over all the earth. It was Christ who spoke the world and all creation into existence. John 1:2-3 along with Colossians 1:15-17. Even the wind and waves are subject to him. Matthew 8:27.
Jesus is Lord of the scriptures. He promised he would send the comforter, or Holy Spirit, to the apostles. Yet the scriptures did not originate with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit simply revealed the truth to the apostles as it was received from the Father and taught by the Son. We know this from John 14:25-26 along with John 16:13.
Jesus is Lord of the church. He is its head, Ephesians 1:22-23 and purchased it with his blood. Acts 20:28. Oh yes, Jesus is Lord of lords. Have you made him Lord of your life?
