James has much to say about the tongue. He compares the power of the tongue to a small rudder that controls the direction of a large ship. James 3:4. He goes on to describe the tongue as a fire of iniquity that defiles the whole body (James 3:6) and an unruly evil full of deadly poison (James 3:8).
