Imagine receiving a $5,000 check in the mail. You place the check in your desk drawer and there it stays. A pharmacist gives you medicine to cure you of your physical ailment. You place the prescription in your medicine cabinet and there it stays. Imagine receiving a Bible as a gift. You place the Bible on your coffee table and there its stays. Question – Which of these items holds the great value?
The answer is easy. They are of no value if they are not used. A check will not help unless it is cashed. Medicine will not help unless it is taken. And a Bible will not help unless it is read, studied, and lived.
How much time had you spent this week investigating the scriptures? Peter wrote, “like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.” I Peter 2:2.
When we long for something we have a strong desire for it. We crave it. We cannot get enough of it. That’s the kind of longing we ought to have for God’s Word. After all, an unread Bible is a useless Bible.
