The Trying of Your Faith, James 1:2-8

We sometimes face things in life that try our faith. These things may include health issues, job issues, financial issues or family matters. The list could go on and on. How should we respond when we face these trials?

First, we must realize that trials are a reality. No one, not even the most faithful of Christians, is immune. James 1:2.

Second, when we encounter the trials of life, we are to consider it all joy. This joy can be defined, not as a giddy happiness, but a sense of calm acceptance. We come to understand the positive that that can result from enduring our trials. James 1:3.

Third, we are to realize the purpose of our trials. Trials can serve to test the genuineness of our faith. It’s through the trials of life that we develop patience, or endurance. James 1:3-4.

Fourth, realize that we have resources to help us with our trials. We are taught to ask God for wisdom in order that we can respond to our trials in the most appropriate way. James 1:5-8.

Lastly, we can rejoice in our victory over life’s trials. When we faithfully endure our trials, we will receive the crown of life. James 1:12.

Undoubtedly, we will all face times when our faith is tested. Stay faithful, ask God for wisdom, and understand that God will help you through your trials.
